Conclusion

From even this cursory look at Vodoun, we can see it is a complex and highly adaptive religion that draws from many traditions. It stands out as different among the mainly Christian Americas and Europe, and over that great an area, information about it becomes mainly rumour, coloured by many kinds of bias. Its practices are interpreted through that value system, which has only served to emphasise differences and further misinformation. However, despite the misperceptions, the extreme political situations that surrounded it, and the many attempts to sway its practitioners, Vodoun has survived. It has survived because the loa follow their servitors and because the loa can have many faces.
